About this site

Not so obvious is a publication that takes complex concepts in the study of science, technology, and society, and tries to make them less opaque. Thrown into that are personal reflections on scholarly and artistic practice, the occasional book review, and some coping mechanisms for doing creative scholarly work in the perpetual dumpster fire that is the world today.

Who, what, when?

Not so obvious is written by me, ginger "all-lower-case" coons, a researcher based in Rotterdam, studying the intersection of emerging technology, society, and the possibilities individuals have in an increasingly technologized world. New essays are published once a week, on Mondays. Small posts about what I'm reading or interesting coping tactics appear on Fridays.

What about the blatant attempts at monetization?

This publication is a labour of love and hosting costs money. That's why I have some minimal and rudimentary monetization set up. If you want to help pay the costs of running this thing, you can subscribe for a couple euros a month on the paid subscription tier, or leave a one-time contribution. You can also buy my book or encourage an academic library near you to buy it.
